Inheritance and estate distribution in Qatar

Fixed Shari'a shares, a formal heir certificate, an inventory of the estate, and court ratification of any division the heirs agree. Handled properly, a consensual division gives a family certainty without the cost and strain of litigation.

What the work involves

The starting point is the legal heir certificate and a complete inventory of the estate, established through the competent authorities before anything can be divided. The heirs' fixed shares are then calculated across real estate, business interests, and liquid assets. Where the heirs agree, we document consensual partition and takharuj arrangements, under which an heir exits the estate in exchange for compensation, and take the division through expert valuation and ratification so that title actually moves. Where a minor is among the heirs, the General Authority for Minors' Affairs has a supervisory role, and arrangements must demonstrably preserve the minor's full entitlement. Where heirs disagree, we advise on resolving the difference before it hardens into litigation.

Our experience

We have advised on the Shari'a-compliant distribution of a substantial multi-heir estate, including share calculations across dozens of registered properties, reconciliation of each heir's entitlement with the court's determination, and resolution of differences between family members. We also draft wills for private clients in accordance with Qatari law, which is the single most effective step for avoiding uncertainty later.
